  • Zodiac (2006)
    Zodiac is an upcoming 2006 film directed by David Fincher. It is based on the Robert Graysmith books about the Zodiac killer.
  • Brokeback Mountain(2005)
    Brokeback Mountain is a widely acclaimed BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award-winning film directed by Ang Lee. The 2005 film stars Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams. The drama depicts a sexual, romantic and emotional relationship between two men living in the American West, from 1963 to 1983. The film led the nominations with eight categories at the 78th Academy Awards and was widely seen as a front runner for Best Picture [1], but was ultimately upset by Crash. The film did, however, win three Oscars, including Best Director.

    The screenplay was written by Diana Ossana and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry, and is based on a short story of the same name by American novelist Annie Proulx, also a Pulitzer Prize-winner. The short story first appeared in The New Yorker in October 1997 and was subsequently included in a published anthology entitled Close Range: Wyoming Stories (1999). The tagline of the film is "Love is a Force of Nature".
  • Jarhead (2005)
    Jarhead is a 2005 film starring Jake Gyllenhaal as U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford, and is based on Swofford's real pre-Gulf War experiences described in his 2003 book, Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles. The title is based on a semi-derogatory term jarhead used for Marines, and sometimes by Marines themselves. The film was directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, most famous for his 1999 film American Beauty.
  • Proof (2005)
    Proof is a 2005 film starring Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie was directed by John Madden, who also directed Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Proof was written by David Auburn (who also wrote Proof, the play on which the film is based) and Rebecca Miller. University of Chicago mathematics professor Paul Sally served as academic consultant. The movie was first shown on September 16, 2005. The DVD was released on February 14, 2006.
  • The Day After Tomorrow (2004) The Day After Tomorrow is a 2004 apocalyptic science-fiction film that depicts catastrophic effects of global warming and boasts high-end special effects, although the science on which the story is based has little credibility.

    Moonlight Mile is a 2002 movie written and directed by Brad Silberling. It takes its name from the Rolling Stones' song of the same name.

    The film is set in 1973 and music from that era is heavily featured, (including that of the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Elton John), transmitting a feeling of the times.

    The Good Girl is a film from Chuck & Buck director Miguel Arteta and Chuck & Buck writer and star Mike White, produced by Matthew Greenfield and released by 20th Century Fox's Fox Searchlight Pictures division. The movie stars Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tim Blake Nelson, Zooey Deschanel, John C. Reilly and John Carroll Lynch. The movie was released on August 7, 2002.
  • Donnie Darko (2001)
    Donnie Darko is a 2001 cult film, the first by writer and director Richard Kelly. Set in 1988, the movie is a psychological science fiction film about a boy named Donnie Darko who, after narrowly escaping death, has visions of an eerie, bipedal, giant rabbit named Frank who predicts when the world will end. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze, Noah Wyle and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
  • Bubble Boy (2001)
    Bubble Boy is a comedy film about a young man who was born without an immune system and has lived his life within a plastic bubble in his bedroom. When he finds out that the woman he has loved since childhood is about to be married at Niagara Falls, he builds a portable bubble suit and ventures into the outside world to win her affections.
  • October Sky (1999)
    October Sky is a 1999 movie based on the book Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam (note that "October Sky" is an anagram of "Rocket Boys"). The book was based on Hickam's real childhood though the writer admits to taking some creative liberties.

    The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, Laura Dern, Chris Owen, William Lee Scott, Chad Lindberg, and Natalie Canerday. Noted photographer O. Winston Link has a cameo appearance as a railroad engineer.
